Dental and oral health of 5-year-old patients attending a specialised cleft centre in the UK
Abstract:
Aim: To evaluate the dental and oral health of 5-year-olds with cleft lip and/or palate born in years 2011 to 2015. Our objectives were to report registration with a general dental practitioner (GDP), adherence to dental prevention and assess dental interventions required from the cleft service. Design: Retrospective service evaluation. Setting: Evelina London Cleft Service, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust. Patients: A total of 184, 5-year-old patients with cleft were included.
Outcome measures: Dental disease, developmental dental defects (DDE), hypomineralisation of primary molars and canines, registration with GDP, dental prevention, dental intervention at the cleft service.
