Endodontic management of a patient with dentinogenesis imperfecta and Cole-Carpenter Syndrome

Abstract:
Introduction: Dentinogenesis imperfecta (DI) and Cole-Carpenter Syndrome (CCS) are both rare conditions, with fewer than 15 cases of CCS reported in the literature. The endodontic prognosis for teeth with DI is widely considered to be unfavourable and reports of successful treatment are scarce. Methods: A 22-year-old woman with DI and CCS presented with intermittent pain and localised intra-oral swelling associated with the mandibular left central incisor and mandibular left canine. Following a clinical and radiographic examination, both teeth were diagnosed with a necrotic and infected root canal system with a symptomatic apical
periodontitis. Multi-visit orthograde root canal treatment was undertaken, and the patient was reviewed over 24 months.
