Editorial - When we are dreaming alone it is only a dream. When we are dreaming with others, it is the beginning of reality. (Dom Helder Camara)

Welcome to the Inaugural issue of the International Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Official Journal of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry - welcome to the reality of our dream! Why a journal? Many of us experienced a ‘renaissance’ in our dentistry, a kind of re-awakening of the senses when we were first exposed to the possibilities offered by cosmetic dentistry. We saw and heard things that inspired us, reawakened our joie de vivre and we wanted to share this inspiration with everyone. From this was born the BACD, founded on principles of openness and sharing. This is the next stage of the dream - a peerreviewed journal that provides us with a more serious medium for sharing and teaching. The Journal will communicate the BACD’s drive for a responsible, ethical approach to cosmetic dentistry. It will show the level of excellence that is expected and can be achieved. It will encourage us to aspire to a standard of excellence and so realise greater personal and professional satisfaction. Why ‘International’? While we still look forward to our first truly international edition, we are already working on manuscripts from European colleagues for the next edition.
